Treehoppers show a very wide diversity of shape and form, arguable more than in any other group of insects. The upper surface can be shaped like a plant thorn, a leaf or even an ant.

The dome-like shield arising from the thorax of this particular treehopper effectively displays the bright orange and black warning colours.
