Tiger Beetle, Borneo.
Tiger beetles are ferocious and powerful hunters in miniature, using their large bulging eyes and long legs to detect and run down their prey. Viewed closely, the surface of the insect has a complex microsculpture of minute pits overlaid with an even smaller mesh-like pattern.
Underneath these structural elements is an almost three-dimensional colour pattern of different shades of green, probably to provide camouflage in its rainforest habitat.
