Looking closely it can be seen that the intense white color of this weevil is produced by a layer of closely packed scales. Although this particular species is yet to be investigated, it has recently been discovered that the white color of other beetles is produced by the complex internal structure of the scales at the nano-scale. Inside each scale is a complex network of filaments which scatters and reflects light with great efficiency.
