Shield Bug, Australia.

This shield bug was collected by Charles Darwin in 1836 during his time aboard HMS Beagle. Considering its age and the how far it has travelled, both in distance and time, it is in remarkable condition. This is one of many specimens in the Darwin collection of the Oxford University Museum. The founder of the insect collection at Oxford, the Rev F.W.Hope, was a friend and mentor to Darwin and they travelled together on several occassions to collect beetles.
