Flying Saucer Trench Beetle, Namibia.
Native to the Namib Desert, this insect has evolved a remarkable method of harvesting water from fog. First it digs a series of trenches and ridges in a sand dune. Standing slightly taller than the surrounding ground, water condenses on the ridges and is then be sucked up by the beetle. Invisible to the naked eye, magnification reveals the beautiful covering of minute white scales, possibly to aid in heat or water regulation.
